Message from Cap'n Mike and Mate Sheila:
July 2010
When we arrived Migration was very needy. I had been communicating with the Technical Services people in the shipyard about problems they were having keeping the batteries charged. They finally found the battery charger was malfunctioning and had to open it. I suggested they flip on the Solar Panel switch in the meantime. When we arrived the charger was out of the boat and the solar panels off. The Technical Services chief left to the competition down the road. Chaos in the yard ensued. We probably have battery damage now. We went without using lights, fridge/cold beer, stove/morning coffee...for 48 hours. Ugh. But we have now turned the corner shore power, battery charger...all working. The Migration coffee is better than I remembered. But the Shipyard employees are a bit overworked and demoralized.
June 2010
Migration has spent about 21 months in Bodrum. We deferred last year's cruise due to Sheila's dad's terminal illness and Christina carrying our first grandchild. But we have a full boat this year and leave Stuart on June 25th. Starting July 12th we plan to cruise north to Cesme, which is all new to us. Then for about 6 weeks, we will do various small hops around there including Kusadasi, the modern port to Ephesus. On September 5th we plan to return to Bodrum. Then a final leg to Marmaris and back, where we will make some old familiar stops. Migration will probably be hauled September 29. On October 6 we plan to fly to Istanbul to tour, then to Miami the 9th.
Mike now has a HAM (Technician) License. He decided he needed know how to use the sophisticated radios on Migration. Hopefully at least he will be able to join in on some of the cruising Nets and get some weather the traditional way.
I have finally updated the Web site with the 2008 Cruise, both text and pictures. It provides so much pleasure reading and seeing and reliving so many wonderful memories.
Enjoy your summer!
